Follicular tracking and endometrial assessment
What is follicular tracking?
Follicular tracking is the means of using an ultrasound scan to monitor ovulation by studying ovarian follicles (vesicles in the ovary that contain a developing egg).
Follicular tracking scans (also known as ovulation scans) can determine accurately when the egg matures and when ovulation occurs. The growing follicle is investigated, which appears as a black sphere on the screen. It can be determined from the scan if the egg has ruptured.
What is endometrial assessment?
Endometrial assessment is used to investigate the thickness of the uterine lining (known as the endometrium). As an ovarian follicle develops, oestrogen is produced, which in turn causes the endometrium to thicken and appear bright on the ultrasound scan. This gives a strong indication of the phase of ovulation.
We will provide you with a full report from your follicular tracking and endometrial assessment scans to enable you to discuss the results with your consultant or lead nurse at your clinic. We can fax or email reports if required. We always have appointments available at short notice on the day if required, 6 days a week, so that scans are carried out at the optimal time dictated by your treatment plan.
Please note that all fertility scans are transvaginal scans and there is no pre-examination preparation required.
How much does it cost?
The Follicular tracking / endometrial assessment scan price is £100
